'Call Your Mother' Ordered Straight-to-Series By ABC

Austin Crute will be starring as ‘Lane’ in ABC’s new comedy series Call Your Mother, which was picked up for their 2020-21 season. Read more from Deadline below.

ABC has made its first official new scripted series selections for the 2020-21 season, handing straight-to-series orders to David E. Kelley’s drama Big Sky, starring Kylie Bunbury and Katheryn Winnick, and Kari Lizer’s multi-camera comedy Call Your Mother (fka My Village), headlined by Kyra Sedgwick.

Austin Crute to Play 'Lane' in ABC Comedy Pilot 'My Village'

Rachel Sennott (Shiva Baby), Joey Bragg (Father of the Year), Emma Caymares (Fosse/Verdon) and Austin Crute (Daybreak) are set as series regulars opposite Kyra Sedgwick in My Village, ABC’s multi-camera comedy pilot from The New Adventures of Old Christine creator Kari Lizer, Sony Pictures TV and ABC Studios. Veteran multi-camera comedy director Pam Fryman has been tapped to direct the pilot.

Written and executive produced by Lizer, My Village revolves around an empty-nester mom, Jean Raines (Sedgwick), who wonders how she ended up alone while her children live their best lives thousands of miles away. She decides her place is with her family and as she reinserts herself into their lives, her kids realize they might actually need her more than they thought.

Crute is Lane, Jackie’s roommate. Also from the Midwest. His parents stopped talking to him when he came out. Lane is thrilled to have Jean around as a surrogate mother-figure. He’s a deeply loyal friend to Jackie. He’s not quite figured out the LA gay scene and will gladly accept Jean’s wisdom and home cooking.

Actor, singer, songwriter Crute most recently starred as Wesley Fists in Netflix’s Daybreak. His other TV credits include the role of Black Justin Bieber in Donald Glover’s series Atlanta and a guest role on Orange is the New Black. On the big screen, Crute can be seen in Annapurna’s feature Booksmart. He most recently wrapped shooting a season-long arc on Netflix’s cult series hit Trinkets. On the music side Crute will be dropping his mixtape Twenties August 4th and his new single March 31st. Netflix to Launch ‘Daybreak’ Scripted Podcast

Netflix is set to launch its first original scripted podcast, Variety has learned exclusively.

Titled “The Only Podcast Left,” the podcast is set in the world of the streamer’s post-apocalyptic series “Daybreak,” and has showrunner and head writer Aron Coleite on board as an executive producer.

According to Netflix, the 6-episode narrative is designed to be complimentary to the main show. The podcast will branch off from season 1 to tell the of a group of teens who decide to make a podcast during an apocalypse… continue to article.

AUSTIN CRUTE TO PLAY 'MARQUISE' IN SEASON 2 OF NETFLIX'S 'TRINKETS'

Austin is set to play Marquise in season 2 of the Netflix show Trinkets.

“Based on Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith‘s young adult novel, and written by Amy Andelson, Emily Meyer and Smith, Trinkets centers on three teenage girls who form an unlikely friendship when they find themselves in the same mandated Shoplifter’s Anonymous meeting. Elodie (Brianna Hildebrand), Moe (Kiana Madeira), and Tabitha (Quintessa Swindell) make an imperfect picture of perfection, finding strength in each other as they negotiate the complicated dilemma of trying to fit in while longing to break out. Crute will play Marquise, a new friend of Tabitha’s (Swindell) in yearbook.”Deadline
